Basketball-Country’s pre-selections to start training in a week’s time |04 June 2005
Before training starts, both pre-selections will meet with their coaches for a briefing.
Members of the men’s team will meet on Wednesday June 8 at 4.30 p.m. at Victoria Gymnasium. The ladies will meet the next day at the same time and venue.
Both pre-selections will train twice weekly at the Palais des Sports and the frequency of training will increase as competitions near.
The women’s pre-selection under head coach Steve Hoareau and assistant Robinson Boniface will train on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m.
Head coach Alix Allisop and his assistant Clifford Joubert will rally their troops for training on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
The men’s pre-selection include 25 players and they are Thomas Collie, Barry Baron, Rodney Lozé, Neddy Fanchette, Bernard Bristol (PLS Hawks), James Beier, Cyril Agrippine, Lenny Aglaé, Dominic Pillay, Garry Duprès, Tony Moustache (Premium Cobras), Dave Roseline, Steve Denis, Robert Léon (Baya), Alex Baron, Jean-Paul Camille (SMB Razorback), Steven Servina (Angels), Danny Bertin (Beau Vallon Heat), Nigel Sinon, Alvin Marie (MBU Rockers), Kenneth Sophie, Biko Biong, Ronny Julienne, Dan Côme (Cascade Bullets) and Hendricks Denis (PLS Dynamics).
The big absentee is PLS Hawks’ star shooting guard Jefferson Nganga and Seychelles Basketball Federation (SBF) chairman Paul Denis has explained that some players have been left out because of poor disciplinary records.
“We want to make it clear that players who don’t behave themselves on the court will be punished and barred from playing for the country’s national teams. We are now talking of pre-selections and there is still time for players to improve their behaviour.
They can be included in a month’s time or at a later date while others can be dropped,” SBF head Denis told Sports Nation on Friday.
The 27 players on the women’s pre-selection are Simone Malbrook, Geneviève Beaudoin, Magdeline Julienne, Lindy Mathiot, Simone Asba (Anse Etoile Stars), Lindy Aglaé, Joanna Moustache, Burtina Désir, Patricia Samynadin (Bel Air), Jennifer Bonne, Christina Georges, Sumita Joubert, Georgia Désir, Nathalie Samynadin (Juniors), Diana Sanguignon, Geneviève Corgate, Catheleena Pouponeau, Bettina Bernard, Presheila Devasin, Kettyna Figaro, Samia Asba (Cadettes), Myra Solin, Bergitta Fontaine, Zerah Fontaine, Jennifer Marie, Sherine Félicie (Hot Shots) and Bernadette Songor (Mont Fleuri).
