XV111 Commonwealth Games-Thelermont  wins bronze for Seychelles

With an Olympic total of 205kg Thelermont took the bronze medal to become only the fourth Seychellois to win medals at these games.

It is also the first time that a discipline other than boxing wins a Commonwealth Games medal for Seychelles.

The three previous medals, two silver and one bronze were won by boxers, Roland Raforme (heavyweight) and Jerry Legras (lightweight) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 1998 and Rival Cadeau  in Victoria, Canada in 1994.

Competing in the 69kg category Thelermont, a policewomen, lifted 95kg in the snatch and 110kg in the clean and jerk to finish third in total weight lifted.

Thelermont is congratulated by fellow athletes and officials of the Seychelles delegation including the Minister responsible for Sports Sylvette Pool

Her performance though was 15kg short of her personal best of 220kg that won her the gold medal at the African senior and Junior Championship held in Uganda last year.

Canadian Elizabeth Lassen lifted a total of 229kg (97kg snatch and 132kg clean and jerk) to win the gold medal. Second place went to Indian lifter Laishram Devi with a total of 222kg (100kg snatch and 122kg clean and jerk.
