Miss Seychelles’ ‘second’ crowning |29 July 2006
Wendy was this week ‘crowned’ for a second time, but this time with her genuine hand- made 14-carat white gold crown which unfortunately did not arrive on time for the June 30 pageant.
According to the pageant’s organizers, it took eight weeks for Flawless (Seychelles) Ltd to design the crown, which arrived in Seychelles on July 24. Flawless (Seychelles) Ltd, the company which operates their duty free shopping destination out of Kenwyn House, was one of the main sponsors of the Miss Seychelles Islands 2006 Beauty Pageant which took place on June 30 at the Plantation Club Resort.
“When Flawless (Seychelles) Ltd was first approached by the Miss Seychelles event organizers to be involved with the national beauty pageant in May this year, they quickly appointed one of their top jewellery designers overseas to design and manufacture a crown that would meet the standard of such a pageant,” the director of Kenwyn House, Rod Thorrington, said on Wednesday when Wendy received her new crown from the pageant’s first princess, Sheijnada Reinert, who was also voted Miss Photogenic on the night of the June 30 pageant.
The crown, which contains over 2.5 carats of brilliant diamonds, 2.5 carats of sapphires as well as several other semi-precious stones such as topaz and tourmaline, will however be kept safe at the Kenwyn House duty free shopping emporium on Francis Rachel Street in between the annual Miss Seychelles Islands events and will be on display for the public to view during working hours. The crown will be the official Miss Seychelles Islands crown for the next three years.
“But if the pageant remains after the three years, then other ‘queens’ will be crowned with it," Mr Thorrington said.
