Regatta 2006-More sponsors pitch in |01 September 2006

The Seychelles Breweries Limited (SBL) has donated R30,000 while Barclays Bank (Seychelles) Ltd has contributed R15,000 to the event, to be held on September 2 & 3 at Beau Vallon.

Cheques for those amounts were presented to the organisers of the event, the Seychelles Round Table, in separate ceremonies held recently.

This comes in the wake of a R10,000 donation made earlier this month by local telecom company, Cable & Wireless (Seychelles).

Handing over SBL's contribution last week, the company's sales and marketing manager Daphne Raoul remarked that the donation is of “traditional importance”, recalling that the SBL has been a financial backer of the event since 1994.

She went on to pledge the company’s “continued support” for the Regatta in the coming years.
Accepting the donation, Ray Hoareau, the chief organiser of this year’s Regatta, noted that funds collected this year will be used to co-sponsor a ‘play-room centre’ for abused children and those suffering from other mental illnesses. The centre is expected to cost some R150,000.

Presenting Barclays' contribution to Round Table chairman Joel Stravens in a ceremony held on Tuesday August 29, the bank's managing director Frank Hoareau

said it is for “charity reason” that Barclays remains faithful to the cause of the Regatta, adding that “charitable acts are an essential part of the bank's business traditions”.

Mr Stravens expressed his organisation’s sincere gratitude and appreciation for what he described as a “humane gesture”.

Last week's cheque presentation ceremony took place at the SBL's O'Brien House, Le Rocher while that on Tuesday was held at the Barclays Bank on Independence Avenue.

The Regatta organisers are also inviting other sponsors to chip in with a contribution of their own while encouraging the public to also lend a helping hand by purchasing lottery tickets for the event, on sale since March this year.

The star prize for this year’s Regatta Lottery is a Twin Cab Ford Ranger pick-up sponsored by yet another local company, Hunt Deltel.

The draw for the lottery, which includes a series of other interesting prizes, will take place on September 3 at Beau Vallon towards the close of this year's event.
