They include an estate for 66 families, a proposed stereotype beachside leisure park and a new youth village.

During the visit, the Head of State said that Anse Royale is yet another district in which residents on the waiting list are set to see their dream of being proprietors of their own houses come true during his five-year tenure of office.

The President was accompanied by the district’s administrator, Sylvanne Lemiel, the Minister for Community Development & Youth, Vincent Meriton, and the Minister for Land Use and Habitat, Joel Morgan, and senior officials from both their ministries.

President Michel said that his visit enabled him to see personally what work is being carried out, and what remains to be done to improve the lives of the inhabitants of Anse Royale.

His tour started at Les Canelles where two massive water tanks are being constructed as part of a several-million rupee project to improve water distribution in the districts and elsewhere.

His entourage also visited a site on the beach at Anse Royale, where President Michel said a leisure park has been planned.

Officials said there is a proposal to build a restaurant, benches, barbeque grills and toilet facilities among other things for people who visit the beach, and President Michel said this will be the beginning of such parks in the country, with others following later elsewhere where people gather.

Mrs Lemiel told Nation that there will be both a leisure park on the beach and a beach park, which will necessitate the diversion of the main road.

“Many of the activities now being held at Port Launay beach will shift to Anse Royale when the former venue is further developed,” she said.

She said they were thrilled to have the President visit the district, and hoped that he would come again later and meet more people.

President Michel said work on the proposed park will start in a month or two, and that a new camp to take the place of the one at Cap Ternay that will need to be relocated due to a tourism project in the area will be constructed at Anse Royale.
“We also visited the landbank at 'Enfoncement' where Seychellois will be able to build their houses, and also the Remize Housing Project where 48 of a proposed 66 families have already been allocated their houses,” he said, adding that a phase II of the project would see a similar number of new flats coming up.

“Although the demand continues to grow, with these projects the demand for houses will be met, and I think this is very good news and it falls within my promise that within my tenure everybody on the list for house allocation will get their house,” he said.

Throughout the visit, the President was seen in serious discussions with the ministers and different technicians as they touched on details of the various projects.

He said that the earmarked projects auger well with Anse Royale’s growth as the country’s second town.

President Michel supported the call by the Ministry of Land Use and Habitat for members of the new estates to remember that the communities they find themselves in are their own communities in which they should seek to safeguard from misuse or pollution, and to make every effort to practice good neighbourliness.
