Hockey-Level One coaching course to spark interests in hockey |17 October 2006
The Level One coaching course is sponsored by the Olympic Solidarity and it will be a key element in the introduction of hockey at school level and in targeting higher level of competitions.
During the opening ceremony, the secretary of the Seychelles Hockey Federation (SHF) Jeffrey Lagrenade, gave a brief account about the history of hockey in Seychelles. He said he is very proud that most of the local hockey players are very young. He also urged the coaches to try and gain the maximum they can out of the course as the future of Seychelles’ hockey lies in their hands.
For his part, course lecturer Carolan said that he will pass on whatever knowledge he can to everyone who has a passion for hockey and that he is looking forward to start the course.
Snoc president Gopal expressed his gratitude to all the participants for attending the course. He said that hockey has followed in the footsteps of other sporting disciplines here in upgrading the level of their coaches, thus providing them with more knowledge and skills needed to bring their sport to a higher level. He added that it is sad that hockey will not feature in next year’s Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) as Seychelles would have been in a good position to win the gold medal.
During the five-day course, the participants will learn basic passing skills, receiving skills, individual defence, group defence strategies, group attacking, defensive and attacking systems.
