Karting: Super Final Grand Prix-Rene-Cosgrow, Ebrahim, Delcy and Denis winners |06 December 2006
In the Formula A category, Liza Rene-Cosgrow was crowned champion after an impressive victory in the final, winning by over two laps ahead of second-placed John Simon and third place finisher Roland Delcy.
Dave Rene, who encountered an engine problem with his kart while in second position, soldiered on to take fourth place after a quick repair job.
With 226 points, Liza finished as 2006 champion whilst Dave took the runner-up spot with 224 points. Both third place finisher John Simon and fourth-placed Roland Delcy finished with identical scores of 136.
This was Liza’s second championship win after the first achieved in 2004, while her father has a total of 10 championship wins – in 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2005.
In the Junior category, Marc Delcy who won his final against two hard-charging rivals – runner-up Hendrick Payet and third place finisher Stephan Simon – accumulated 224 points to shoot to the top of the standings and relegate long-time leader Ian Confiance into second place with 209 points. Marlon Panagary finished third overall with 205 points.
The 2006 Cadet champion is Zayn Ebrahim with 234 points after pipping Andrew Gabriel (226 points) in the standings on the final day. Gabriel finished as runner-up, while Christian Moïse took third place in the championship with 221 points.
Franchisco Thiroomooldy (190 points) and Yannick Gabriel (157 points) finished fourth and fifth respectively.
Ian Denis is the Novice class champion. He started the final round equal on points with Michael Hissen and with the competition between those two being so close, the race winner was to be declared the champion. Denis took the chequered flag ahead of race runner-up Didas Camille and third place finisher Billy Camille to accumulate 131 points.
His total was nine more than that of Hissen who finished fourth in the race and second overall in the final standings with 122 points.
Billy Camille finished third overall with 113 points and Dane De Commarmond fourth with 97 points.
The prizes were presented to the winners by Seychelles Karting Association (SKA) vice-chairman Cyril Simon. Special thanks went to sponsors DHL, Qatar Airways, Abhaye Valabjhi, Eden Island, the National Sports Council and all volunteers who spent their Sundays at the Champions Park Raceway to make sure the races go on as planned.
