Swimming: Age Group and Open Championship-No records as youngsters battle alongside elites |17 April 2007

The competition, which did not produce any new record, was the opportunity for young swimmers to get exposed to competitions and for the coaches to evaluate their progression and detect new talents.

There were five age groups - 7 to 9 years, 10 to 11 years, 12 to 13 years, 14 to 15 years and 16 years and over.

In the girls’ 7 to 9 years category, Anisha Payet won the 50m backstroke, and 50m and 100m freestyle.

In the girls’ 10 to 11 years age group, Aurellie Fanchette was a winner in the 200m individual medley, 50m and 100m freestyle, 50m and 100m backstroke and 50m butterfly.

Shannon Austin was invincible in the 14 to 15 years age group. She clinched top spot in 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle, 50m and 100m backstroke, 50m and 100m butterfly, 200m individual medley as well as 100m and 200m breaststroke.

In the 16 years and over age group, Liza Mangroo dominated, finishing first in the 100m, 200m and 400m freestyle, 50m and 100m butterfly, 200m individual medley, 50m and 100m backstroke.

In the boys’ 7 to 9 years age group category, Adam Moncherry was unbeatable. He won the 50m backstroke, 50m breaststroke, 50m and 100m freestyle and 50m butterfly.

Dominique D’Offay was the best performer in the 10 to 11 years age group category, winning the 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle, 50m and 100m backstroke, 200m individual medley and 50m butterfly.

In the 12 to 13 years group, Dwayne Didon won the 50m and 100m freestyle, 200m individual medley, 50m, 100m and 200m breaststrokes to top the category.

Fabio Bastienne was the best swimmer in the 14 to 15 years age category. He was first in the 50m and 200m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 200m individual medley, 50m and 200m breaststroke and 50m butterfly.

In the 16 years and over age group, Bertrand Bristol and Steven Mangroo won three races each.
Bristol was the winner in the 50m backstroke, 100m butterfly and 200m individual medley whilst Mangroo won the 100m, 200m and 400m freestyle.
