African Development Bank Annual Meetings-Peter Sinon elected executive director at ADB |21 May 2007
According to the communique, Mr Sinon’s election, which is for the period 2007 – 2010, took place on May 14, 2007 during the bank’s annual meetings held in Shanghai.
Seychelles was represented at the meetings by a delegation led by the Minister for Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation Patrick Pillay.
Formerly High Commissioner of Seychelles to the Republic of South Africa and the Republic of Namibia, Mr Sinon had been working as alternate executive director and adviser to the executive director to the ADB Board of Directors, representing the East Africa Constituency, which comprises Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Seychelles, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda.
Established in 1964, the ADB is a regional multilateral development bank, engaged in promoting the economic development and social progress of its regional member countries in Africa. Due to its high per capita income, Seychelles is among the few African countries which can borrow from the ADB.
During the annual meetings, the Seychelles’ delegation had the privilege to meet with the ADB President Daniel Kaberuka, in a separate meeting.
Besides the ADB, the Seychelles’ delegation also took the opportunity to meet with various other development partners such as the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA), OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) and the Kuwait Fund, to discuss on-going and future co-operation.
Discussions were also held with different members of the ADB staff in particular the vice-president for Finance Thierry de Longuemar, who visited Seychelles earlier this year.
According to the communiqué, the Seychelles’ delegation has expressed utmost satisfaction with the outcome of the meetings in Shanghai.
