Seychelles Nurses and Midwives Council gets new registrar |23 August 2007

Mrs Agricole, who is a nurse/midwife with advance training in nursing, is now responsible for the management of the secretariat of the Council.

The SNMC, which is elected for a period of two years, comprises 12 members and the current chairperson is Mirena Souris.

The chairperson, together with the councillors, are nursing and midwifery professionals representing both private and governmental practicing sectors, education and training sector, as well as allied professionals in health and consumer services.

The SNMC is the established statutory body governed by the Nurses and Midwives Act 1985, caps 150, and its mandate is to regulate nursing and midwifery practice in Seychelles through the upgrading and maintenance of standard.

Additionally, the SNMC has a duty to ensure that the education and training of nurses and midwives meet the required standard.

All nurses and midwives employed in Seychelles are bound by the law to abide by the legalities of the Nurses and Midwives Act. This includes practicing within the scope stipulated by the act, having a currently valid license to practice, abiding by the code of conduct and code of ethics of the profession.

According to the new registrar, it is recommended that all nurses and midwives registered with the SNMC acquaint themselves with the Nurses and Midwives Act 1985, (Caps150),  and regulation, 1989 (caps 150) which  governs the practice of the  profession. 

The SNMC is housed in the Blue Roof building of the Ministry of Health and is opened  from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m, Monday to Friday.
