They also took part in a ground-breaking ceremony that marked the start of work that is expected to be completed in September 2009 at a cost of US $150 million.
Senior project manager Desmond Riordan of the developers, who are in partnership with local company Corvina Investments, gave assurances that at no time will access to the beach be blocked.
On the contrary, he said, access will be improved, with parking facilities.
He said that a lot of construction materials will be imported, but items such as crusher dust and aggregate will be bought locally, while Seychellois contractors have been employed for site clearance.
Site manager D. L. Amarasingha said that there are currently 150 construction workers from India and Sri Lanka, although the number of employees is likely to rise to around 1,000.
