20 new cabin crew join Air Seychelles |14 April 2008
The 15 female and 5 male crew members were presented with their certificates by the airline’s cabin services manager Elsia Hoareau in a ceremony at the Seafront Restaurant, Maison du Peuple, on Friday.
The training, conducted at the airline’s training academy at Pointe Larue, covered customer care, aviation security and basic restraining techniques, grooming and first aid, among other topics.
Other training components, which included flight emergency procedures, evacuations and slide drills were carried out at the Air Mauritius Training Centre at the Sir Seewasagoor Ramgoolam International Airport in Mauritius.
While welcoming the new staff into the profession, Mrs Hoareau said that the training has provided the new recruits with the right baggage needed to succeed in their chosen field of work.
She however noted that they (the recruits) will also have to display good behaviour in order to go very far.
At Friday’s ceremony, attended by the airline’s executive chairman Captain David Savy, other top officials from the airline, as well as relatives and friends of the graduates, awards were also presented to the best performers.
Derick Servina received the best overall performer award while Natasha Belairy and Roy Moumou received the best female and male performer awards respectively.
Angie Pothin was named the best improved performer.
Talking to the press, overall best performer Servina, who received his award from Captain Savy, said he decided to take up this career not only because he wanted to meet new people but also saw it as a challenge.
He added that although he was not a hundred percent sure that he would be nominated as the best overall performer, he felt he had worked hard enough during the training to deserve such an honor.
Mr Servina said that although he had put in a lot of hard work in his training, he managed to create a healthy balance of work and leisure while on training.
Apart from their certificates, the graduates were also given their cabin crew wings by their two main instructors.
The new recruits begin to fly on Air Seychelles this week, joining the 146 Seychellois cabin crew currently employed with the national airline.
