New road brings relief to people of Val d’Andorre |03 July 2008
Mr Revera unveils the plaque (photo above) to inaugurate the new road
This follows the opening at the weekend of the new stretch of road, costing R2.3 million, in the upper Baie Lazare region.
It took Roucou Construction Company some nine months to complete the Semen Merle. In his speech to mark the opening, Baie Lazare district administrator Tresfle Revera, who also had the honour of unveiling the plaque to inaugurate the road, said he is happy people now have proper road access to their homes.
This means vehicles will get to their doorstep, cutting down on the distance they have to travel on foot with their shopping, he said.
The road also solves a problem for the farmers of Val d’Andorre, who previously had a long distance to carry their produce baskets to get them taken to market.
The new road, starting at the Val d’Andorre junction and ending at the top of the hill, is 530 metres long. A ceremony was held on the hilltop to mark the opening.
