Judge Perera confirmed as Chief Justice |05 August 2008
The Constitutional Appointments Authority recommended his appointment to the President after Chief Justice Vivekanand Alleear resigned at the end of January. Mr Perera has been serving as acting Chief Justice since then.
He came to Seychelles in 1982 as the first Master and Registrar of the Supreme Court, and later served as Senior Magistrate.
He was appointed to the Supreme Court bench as a judge in January 1991 and acted as the Chief Justice on many occasions. As well as these duties, he has also served as the president of the Constitutional Court since 1994.
He has a total of 48 years’ experience in administering justice both in Sri Lanka and in Seychelles.
He held various posts in the Registry of the Sri Lankan Supreme Court from 1960 and was its Registrar from 1976 to 1990.
Justice Perera will be sworn in before the President at State House this morning.
