E-mail on the move: The Airtel Advantage |03 September 2008
Over the past 10 years Airtel has shown astounding growth. Airtel with its host of services has made mobile usage friendlier as well as economical for a Seychellois.
Being a pioneer in launching new services and providing excellent customer care, Airtel strives to provide the best telecommunication solutions for its customers. To remain in touch at all times is the accepted norm here, and elsewhere in the world. This is reflected, in the evolution of the mobile technology, culminating 3G, HSDPA and beyond.
As we are all aware, Airtel is the sole operator providing 3G services in Seychelles. The one key feature that sets 3G apart from all other mobile technology, available in the Seychelles market, is high speed access to e-mail and other data services through your mobile handset. Thus taking advantage of this exclusive service, an Airtel customer can easily access his E-mails, simply by using his Internet Connection over the efficient and reliable Airtel 3G network.
This is how easy it is:
For accessing your E-mail while on the move, you simply need to enable Internet Access through the GPRS feature on a compatible mobile handset. (Please note that most handsets today support GPRS features). An E-mail server should have a public interface.
All you need to do is to set up your e-mail software to use the Windows Active Synch, (Internet Mail Access Protocol) IMAP4/SMTP or POPS.
Eg .. Use the following steps to set up your E-mail Windows client:
1. Open your handset E-mail client from the start menu
2. Go to Tools New Account
3. Provide your E-mail address in Email Address field
4. At the Auto Configuration Screen, Tap NEXT
5. Enter your name in the Name field, your internet ID in the Username field, tap NEXT
6. Select IMAP4 for Account type and enter a useful name for this account, e.g.,
imap.airtel.sc Tap Next.
7. At the E-mail Setup screen, enter the following information:
a. Incoming mail: imap.airtel.sc
b. Outgoing mail: smtp.airtel.sc
c. Domain: (leave empty)
8. Tap Options.
9. Check new messages automatically: Check the Connect and check for new messages every box and specify the number of minutes between checks (15-20 or more is recommended).
Verify that Connection is set appropriately for your device. Tap Next.
10. Check the “ Required SSL connection” and Outgoing e-mail server, “required authentication”.
11. You can also decide how much of each message to download initially. You may want to change these options later, if you find that they do not match your e-mail habits (offline reading, high message volume, etc.)
Settings will vary depending on the handset.
Once the settings are in place you can access the following features through your mobile phone:
1. Emails that you have already checked and read, deleted or moved to a folder will show on your handset device and your PC. The system uses over the air technology and therefore there is no need to synchronize your message activity.
2. You can also send emails to a predefined group of contacts.
3. The Integrated Attachment Solution in the mobile software makes it possible to open all your attachments at your convenience.
So now you don’t need to invest in expensive handsets or get costly packages to access your mail.
Simply get your GPRS activated and enjoy the difference with 3G.
With the most economical tariff packages available for internet access, Airtel gives you substantial cost savings. In addition, with a host of International GPRS roaming partners Airtel provides a distinct advantage of using the E-mail service even when roaming overseas.
Get up to date with the very latest technology in mobile communication … and experience the difference with 3G.
