Seychelles’ ambassador to Andorra accredited

Mr Faure presents his credentials to Bishop Joan-Enric Vives I Sicilia

Barry Faure, Seychelles’ ambassador with residence in Brussels, presented his credentials to Bishop Joan-Enric Vives I Sicilia, Co-Prince of Andorra, on Thursday September 18.

Andorra, placed between the south of France and northern Spain, has similarities with Seychelles in that it has a small population and land mass, benefits greatly from tourism – which accounts for 60% of its gross national product – and offers attractive financial services. Like Seychelles, it is also a member of La Francophonie.

There is, therefore, scope for cooperation in fields such as tourism, education, health, general economic development and the building of alliances in international forums.

The accreditation ceremony took place at the Palais Episcopale of the Seu d’Urgell, Spain, in the presence of Andorran Minister for Foreign Affairs Meritxell Mateu.

The presentation was followed by a private audience with the Bishop, one of two co-princes who are joint heads of state. The other is the President of France, to whom Mr Faure is also expected to present his credentials.

During his first working mission to Andorra, Ambassador Faure also attended the annual reception for the diplomatic corps, organised by the Bishop, which gave him the chance to meet Prime Minister Albert Pintat and other Andorran officials.

He also had talks with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Andorran Tourism Agency, the University of Andorra and various economic and financial operators.
