Football: Barclays League Division Two-Northern Dynamo cap return to top flight with win

NORTHERN DYNAMO … Barclays League Division Two winners

Under coach Cliff Nolin, Glacis-based Northern Dynamo remain unbeaten in 21 games and their latest victims were Côte d’Or. They edged the Praslin team 2-1 on Tuesday at Stad Popiler before being presented with the second division’s winner’s trophy and medals by Barclays Bank representative Ranjan Orphée and Seychelles Football Federation vice-chairman Roch Henriette.

Northern Dynamo needed only 13 minutes to get their first goal. Steven Télémaque sent in a cross to Francis Moumou, who sent his well-calculated shot into the net (1-0).

In the 32nd minute, Northern Dynamo could have stretched their lead when Asman Todisoa played the ball to Moumou. He beat Côte d’Or goalkeeper Neddy Lesperance but before he could slip the ball into the net, it was cleared to safety by a defender.

Northern Dynamo stretched their advantage to 2-0 in the 58th minute after Moumou went on a solo run, leaving a couple of Côte d’Or defenders in his wake. When everyone thought he would take a shot, he played the ball to Steven Télémaque. With Lesperance completely beaten, Télémaque had the easiest of tasks to calmly place the ball into the open net.

Côte d’Or scored a consolation goal late in the match. After receiving a back pass, Northern Dynamo’s goalkeeper Jules Monnaie dwelled too long on the ball, allowing Jones Anacoura to close in on him. When Monnaie hesitated for a split second, it was all Anacoura needed to steal the ball from him and send it into the back of the net, reducing the score to 2-1.

With 18 wins and three draws, Northern Dynamo have 57 points and their last league match is against Mont Buxton.
