Handball-Under-20 teams to compete in Mauritius

Revens Louise will lead Seychelles’ offence at the tournament

The under-20 tournament, sponsored by the International Handball Federation (IHF), will group African Zone 7 countries – Seychelles, Mauritius, Madagascar, Comoros and Djibouti.

Workshops for match officials and coaches will also take place alongside matches at the event, and four local coaches will be taking part.

Winners of the competition will represent Zone 7 at another tournament that will feature the elite from the different zones.
Members of the delegation received their plane tickets from Seychelles Handball Federation (SHF) chairman Norbert Dogley during a ceremony at the Palais des Sports on Monday.

Mr Dogley said he is convinced our local boys’ and girls’ teams will do well at the tournament as the players, though young, have a lot of experience. He explained that most of them have played at international level against older opponents.

Four physical education teachers are also making the trip, and Mr Dogley said they will follow several courses on the basic techniques of teaching handball at school level.

He said the SHF is initiating a school handball league in its effort to promote the sport among young people and has brought in new equipment that will be distributed to schools and registered teams.

The delegation is headed by Mr Dogley, and the girls’ team comprises Adelle Sanguyon, Agnetia Payet, Christabelle Albert, Christelle Sedwick, Christie Albert, Clara Esparon, Debra Volcy, Ivyna Quatre, Jemina Cupidon, Natasha Léon, Norita Leggaie, Renatta Michel, Ria Estico and Sharifa Agathine, with Emmanuel Larue (coach) and Marie-Claire Chetty (team manager).

The boys’ team is made up of Alex Monthy, Alister Amblavany, Dave Bonnelame, Dereck Volcy, Ian Loizeau, Leroy Laure, Lutherd Amblavany, Ned Esparon, Nicky George, Paolo Moustache, Revens Louise, Ronald Melanie, Stan Tomking and Steven Andre, with Danny Philoé (coach) and Joliff Figaro (team manager).

Also there will be coaches Cyril Freminot, Freddy Annette, Jacqueline Bastienne and Tony Hortere; officials Jason Fred, Vincent William, Alix Dufrene and José Nenesse; and PE teachers Louis Mambe, Mepole Mathiot, Natalie Samynadin and Rita Toussaint.
