Seychelles Breweries staff give to Haiti cause

Wednesday’s cheque handover ceremony

Following an appeal by the Red Cross Society of Seychelles (RCSS), the company urged its staff into action, and after one month’s collection of voluntary contributions the sum of R31,300 had been raised.

The firm then matched this amount to bring the total to R62,600, and a cheque was presented to RCSS president Claudette Servina on Wednesday morning at Seychelles Breweries’ Le Rocher headquarters.

Handing over a blown-up version of the cheque, the company’s general manager Aubrey Lucas thanked his employees for the initiative and said it showed their commitment to such an important cause.

“We do hope that this contribution to the Haiti Relief Fund will go a long way and make a difference in helping the people of Haiti,” he said.

Mrs Servina said that although Haiti features less in the news nowadays, a lot remains to be done and the country is still in need of much more aid.

“We certainly recognise and appreciate Seychelles Breweries’ concern and dedication in the fight to alleviate human suffering,” she said.

She added that coming from such a small country, the contribution is significant, and the various amounts raised by local organisations and businesses now amount to a total of over R400,000.
