Kokozone-Wireless internet hotspots: The easiest internet option |09 April 2010
And while dial up and internet connections are keeping people connected at home, in the office or in school, sometimes that’s just not enough.
To meet this new and growing demand for internet access anytime, anywhere, increasing numbers of people are logging on to wireless hotspot services.
Seychelles’ most well established wireless hotspot network is Kokonet’s Kokozone service, which has hotspots on Mahe, Praslin and La Digue and an ambitious schedule for further expansion.
After purchasing credit, via an easy to use pre-paid Kokozone scratch card system, users simply keep an eye on their wireless-enabled laptop or mobile phone until it indicates that they’ve entered a Kokozone hotspot. They then log on and surf away.
“So far we’ve concentrated the Kokozone hotspots on the areas most convenient for our customers, such as the inter island quays, airports and most of central Victoria,” said Kokonet’s Marketing and Sales Manager, Romano Laurence, “but there are hotspots all over the country and more are continually being added.”
Thanks to its ease of use, no sign-up fee and no need for a contract, wireless hotspots have attracted a wider range of users than traditional internet connections.
“Hotels are always happy to host a Kokozone hotspot, because it becomes an additional service they can offer to their customers. And as more and more hotels start hosting the service, areas with large concentrations of tourism establishments, such as Beau Vallon, become vast hotspots open to all internet users,” said Mr Laurence.
Two hours online with a Kokozone pre paid card, offering access to any Kokozone hotspot, costs R100, while a monthly subscription offers incredible savings, with unlimited time online for only R500 plus tax.
“The Kokozone service is cheap, easy to use and offers broadband connection speeds. But its best feature is the flexibility it offers the user. They don’t have to be stuck in one place, at home or in an office, they can connect at the beach, in town or on a day trip to La Digue. It’s all about making the internet meet the needs of the user, not the other way around,” said Mr Laurence.
Kokozone scratch cards are available for sale in outlets in most Kokozone hotspots and at the Kokonet office in Pirates Arms arcade.
