Cable & Wireless-sponsored National Junior Athletics Championship-Lou-Toy, Henriette earn highest points

Held last weekend at the Stad Popiler, the two-day championship organised by the Male winner HenrietteSeychelles Athletics Federation was an opportunity for gold medallists at the eighth Jeux de la Commission de la Jeunesse et des Sports de l’Océan Indien (CJSOI) in Reunion and other young athletes to showcase their abilities, but the turnout was disappointing.

Lou-Toy and Henriette won the top prizes on day one – Friday – when they competed in the straight 200m finals.

Lou-Toy amassed 892 points after stopping the clock at 26.62 seconds to win in front of runner-up Shantina Magloire (27.56 seconds) and third place finisher Corina Lesperance (28.61 seconds).

With a time of 22.25 seconds for 907 points, Henriette was second to senior sprinter Neddy Marie (22.19 seconds) who competed as an invitee, while Yannick Ernesta finished third in 23.35 seconds.

Of the three CJSOI gold medallists, only two – Lissa Labiche (high jump) and Marie-Helen Rose (shot put) – took part, while Ronny Bristol (shot put) was absent.

Labiche won the female high jump with a bar of 1.65m which is a rather poor result compared to her two-year-old record of 1.79m.

Throws specialist Rose dominated all four events she took part in – hammer (23.86m), shot put (9.97m), discus (29.60m) and javelin (23.80m).
