Football: Barclays league division one-St Louis Suns strengthen third position |09 October 2010
It was Dynamo who opened the scoring in the fifth minute as Marcus Maria fired past goalie and captain Joel Lesperance for a 1-0 lead.
Filled with youth players, the St Louis Suns squad took time to get their act together and on a few occasions could have gone further behind.
In the 14th minute, Dynamo’s Steve Henriette was clean through but he blazed over the crossbar with only Lesperance to beat.
Three minutes later, St Louis Suns had a half chance from Nadim Lucas’ lofted cross to Jonathan Bibi, but his glancing header flew narrowly wide.
In the 19th minute, St Louis Suns again threatened as Bibi held off a strong challenge from a throw-in to cut the ball back to Travis Laurence, but he was tackled in the nick of time.
Dynamo should have stretched their lead in the 25th minute as St Louis Suns’ Leeroy Gomme played a poor corner, which allowed Francis Moumou to counter. Moumou broke clear to flash a centre across goal and captain Asman Todisoa let the ball roll to Henriette, who had the goal at his mercy but missed the target.
Just past the half-hour mark, St Louis Suns were gifted a goal from Gomme’s cross, which Ted Cupidon inadvertently headed past his own goalie Jules Monnaie for a 1-1 score.
In the 37th minute, St Louis Suns’ Kelly Nibourette almost caught out Monnaie with a long-range effort, which he just managed to push round a post.
On the stroke of half-time, St Louis Suns should have taken the lead as Bibi played a glorious crossfield pass to Roddy Melanie, who laid the ball to the unmarked Guiseppe Chetty, but he shot weakly at Monnaie.
The second half lacked goalmouth action and it was only in the 67th minute that Dynamo went close from Cupidon’s free-kick, but Darrel Damoo could not direct his header on target from close range.
Ten minutes later, at the other end, St Louis Suns had a decent chance from Gomme’s corner, which substitute Colin Laporte failed to tuck home in a crowded penalty area.
In the 79th minute, Dynamo captain Todisoa’s shot on the turn was easily saved by Lesperance.
St Louis Suns were gifted a penalty in the 85th minute as Cupidon handled David Dorby’s shot, and referee Nelson Emile pointed to the spot. Jonathan Bibi, who had missed his last spot kick against LightStars, fired past Monnaie to earn his team a 2-1 victory.
