Sainte Anne Resort signs agreement with union |27 October 2010
The signings at the resort last week were done by the resort’s general manager Hervé Duboscq and the Seychelles Federation of Workers’ Union (SFWU) general secretary Antoine Robinson. The STGWU is a branch of the federation.
In his address Mr Robinson said the agreements stand as a significant symbol of social dialogue still to be emulated by a lot of other workplaces in Seychelles.
He said the recognition agreement will give the STGWU the mandate to represent workers at the Sainte Anne Resort and Spa, especially in matters relating to employment.
And through the check-off agreement, the workers will give authority to the resort to deduct a part of their salaries to pay the union monthly.
“With these recognition and check-off agreements between our two organisations behind us, the task now remains to bring this partnership to fruition,” said Mr Robinson.
He assured the management that the union will not tolerate an unproductive attitude from its members but will team up with them to become leaders of hard and productive work.
Apart from signing the agreements, the federation discussed several other points with Mr Duboscq, including a collective bargaining agreement.
“Our contribution to the future of this partnership and continued progress at the Sainte Anne Resort and Spa will arise from our collective bargaining agreement, the next step in the collective work ahead,” added Mr Robinson.
Mr Duboscq said the resort is happy to be working with the SFWU and is looking forward to this collaboration, which will help to improve relations between the staff and hotel management.
