Lucky user wins new netbook at Kokonet

Mr Laurence carrying out the draw

The draw, a first-time event, was made on Monday at its new sales office at the SPACE 95 premises on Huteau Lane by chief commercial officer Romano Laurence in the presence of other staff.

Sebastien Cowin was the lucky winner of a brand new netbook, a one-year connection to the Kokozone wireless internet hotspot service and a package that includes one year’s free warranty and installation.

With the aim of allowing more people to take advantage of the potential of the internet, Kokonet recently launched a special offer of a netbook and internet subscription at an industry-leading price.

To help promote this offer, the free competition was launched at www.kokonet.sc for users, and a total of 94 people took part.

To be able to take part, customers had to go online, fill in a form and then their names were entered into a draw.

Formed by a group of local investors who spotted the growing importance of the internet in late 2000, Kokonet has pioneered internet development in Seychelles and remains the only locally owned internet service provider.

In a press release, its chief executive Bernard Moutia said 10 years ago the team realised the possibilities that were available with the internet.

“We saw which way it was going and I am happy to say that today we are still leading the way and being innovative,” he said.

“Kokonet has always been about making the internet available to the people of Seychelles, both physically and financially.”

Kokonet offers competitive internet subscription rates, but still some potential customers have been held back by a lack of hardware, Mr Moutia added.

To fill the gap, Kokonet has started selling the ultra-lightweight, high-specification Dell Inspiron 1018 netbook at a highly discounted price to new subscribers who sign up for a 12-month Kokonet connection.

“Kokonet believes the internet has evolved from being a useful tool for work, play and communication into an essential daily necessity,” he said.

“We want all Seychellois to have the chance to benefit from the potential of the internet and we will continue to make this possible.”
