Victoria sees final decorations go up |01 March 2011
The last work needed before the foreign delegations started to arrive and before Seychelles decends on Victoria on Friday afternoon was for the capital to be lit up.
Last Saturday and Sunday, Allied Builders and Vijay Construction mobilised their teams to get Victoria illuminated in time.
Vijay Construction is reponsible for lighting from the Clock Tower and down Independence Avenue to the Bicentennial Monument. Arches have been put up to give this main avenue an arcade feel as the thousands of Seychellois and visitors walk round Victoria for the three days of the carnival.
Allied Builders, meanwhile, is lighting up Albert and Francis Rachel streets. And the Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Resort and Casino has put up Chinese lanterns to light the area of Victoria where the Chinese restaurant will be serving food.
"We wanted Victoria to show a totally different face for our carnival days and we worked with all concerned to bring a different lighting style," said STB chief executive Alain St Ange.
The National Day Committee and Public Utilities Corporation have been working with the STB to make this carnival the national event it is meant to be.
"A 'throwing the switch' ceremony to light up Victoria will be held in the coming days, and Seychelles will be informed of this event soon," said Mr St Ange as he thanked all those who had come forward to help make Victoria attractive for the celebrations.
Banners were expected to arrive yesterday to decorate the main road into Victoria. They are a donation from Chinese businessmen through the Seychelles embassy in China.
