Carnaval International de Victoria: sharing the fun through the net |04 March 2011
For those of us lucky enough to be on Mahe for the weekend, the party has come to us. But what about our friends and family on the other islands or overseas who are missing out on the party of the year?
“We wanted everybody to share the fun. So we’re putting the fun online,” said Kokonet’s sales and marketing manager Romano Laurence.
For the Carnaval International de Victoria, Kokonet has installed a series of webcams across town to broadcast the parade, entertainment and fun during the three-day party.
“We’ve put cameras at strategic spots around town, so we’ll be able to broadcast the opening ceremony, the parade and all the highlights of the carnival to the world,” said Mr Laurence.
To relay footage of the carnival around the world, Kokonet is taking advantage of its extensive broadband coverage, which enables it to wirelessly connect the series of webcams to the net. The webcams can be viewed at www.kokonet.sc
Special international call rates from less than R1 a minute
And as well as letting web users around the world check out live images from the carnival, Kokonet has also slashed the rates of its easy-to-use Kokotalk calling service, so carnival-goers and those taking part can call around the world.
“During the carnival we’re introducing special rates for international calls. We’ve pulled our starting rate down to only 99c per minute, plus GST, for calls to our most popular destinations,” said Mr Laurence.
The new Kokotalk rates have been introduced using a simple prepaid calling system, enabling people to use their own mobile or fixed phone to call around the world and make huge savings.
“Users of the calling cards don’t need an account with Kokonet. They just need to buy a calling card, follow the simple instructions and then start speaking to their friends and family in London, New York, Paris, Delhi, Rome or Perth for only 99c plus GST per minute,” said Mr Laurence.
To buy a pre-paid card to access the low Kokotalk rates, visit the Kokonet stall in the Waterfront Park in Victoria, between Seychelles Nation and the Marine Charter Association, throughout the carnival or call 610500.
