ICT in Education-La Misère primary aims to Win for Seychelles with new technology

P4 pupils discovering the laptops’ unique features La Misère primary school using the technology to Win for Seychelles as talk of e-learning intensifies, there is an air of excitement all round. Staff, parents and pupils are all eager and grateful for this initiative

With the introduction of computers in schools a few years back, the staff have long embraced this idea and are now using information communication technology not only as a working tool but a vital teaching tool.

Indeed IT has revolutionised the way teaching and learning take place. With the use of PowerPoint presentations, word processing, spreadsheets and other software, school-based curriculum materials that suit learners’ needs have been developed.

Moreover, teachers have been taking their laptops to class, making lessons more interactive and fun. In-depth research and professionally presented work are just two of the fruits reaped.

With the current initiative of the Sheikh Khalifa Intel Teach project, and the supply of the Classmate PCs, the school is aiming to integrate IT into the curriculum.

These Classmate PCs come as an answered prayer, and great strides are being made to ensure they are used effectively. Already, through professional development sessions, the master trainers have passed on their expertise to other teachers.

At La Misère primary all classes (crèche-P6) have had the chance to experience the wonders and features of the new laptops. As an extra strategy the master trainers are running an IT club and keeping an IT diary to record the movements of the laptops and ensure staff and pupils do take the time to discover what this tool has to offer.
