Canoeing-Lespoir clocks K1 500m record |19 April 2011
After winning the open K1 200m race in 21.30 seconds at the Eden Island, Lespoir took the start of the K1 500m race and reached the finish line in 1 minute 52.60 seconds (1:52.60) to rewrite the record books.
Randolph Jeannevole (51.80 seconds in 200m and 2:27.80 in 500m), Stephen Nicette (52.90 seconds in 200m and 2:40.40 in 500m), Romio Dubignon (53.60 seconds in 200m and 2:30.20 in 500m) and Alex Barra (1:02.70 in 200m and 3:35.40 in 500m) were second, third, fourth and fifth respectively.
In the junior class, Eric D’Unienville was a class above the rest of the five-paddler field, winning both the 200m (1:03.30) and 500m (2:45.70) races.
Natanielle Diane (1:06.00 in 200m and 2:59.90 in 500m), Ian Rosette (1:13.20 in 200m and 3:16.10 in 500m), Louise Siméon (1:14.10 in 200m and 3:37.20 in 500m) and Dwayne Bradburn (1:33.70 in 200m and 4:03.40 in 500m) were ranked second to fifth in the junior division.
Meanwhile, the next two races – k1 1,500m and K1 2,500 – will take place on Saturday April 30, starting at 9am at the Eden Island.
