Cricket: Vijay Cup-Vijay ‘A’ demolish Four Seasons, Vijay ‘B’ end Luckstars’ cup dream |06 May 2011

In the morning match, Vijay ‘A’ batsmen, Ramesh in particular, pelted Four Seasons’ bowlers all over the park to put on an unassailable total of 259 runs in 23 overs before winning to top group B. In the afternoon match, Luckstars lost out to a disciplined Vijay ‘B’ line-up. 

After winning the toss, Four Seasons made the mistake of allowing Vijay ‘A’ to bat first. Ramesh and Govind started hitting the ball over the boundary ropes right from the word go and Ramesh – the man who is making it a habit of easily scoring centuries in Seychelles – got his third century in the last two years. He was undefeated on 101, smashing 16 fours and 2 sixes in the process, while Govind scored 60 runs with 6 fours and 3 sixes.

The first wicket enjoyed a mammoth 197 opening run partnership while the first wicket fell only in the 19th over.

Vijay’s Dinesh finished the innings with a quickfire 46 off 16 balls to put on the big total.

Four Seasons’ bowlers had a horrible time in the middle with Janaka taking two wickets and Ruwin taking one. Going into the chase, Four Seasons’ batsmen could not make an impression as their batting line-up collapsed and they completed their 23 overs with only 127 runs for the loss of 8 wickets, Sanjeeva and Richard top-scored for their team with 20 and 23 runs respectively. Aravind took 3 wickets for Vijay ‘A’.

In the afternoon, Luckstars took on Vijay ‘B’ in a must-win tie for both teams. Winning the toss Luckstars chose to bat and could not really capitalise on that choice thanks to some very disciplined bowling from Vijay ‘B’.

They bowled Luckstars out for 128 in 22 overs. Top scorer for Luckstars was Aruna with 23 runs. Murji took 3 wickets, while Kishore, Mayur and Dinesh took two wickets apiece.

In the chase, Vijay ‘B’ were dragged up to the 21st over in order to achieve the total. Mohammed top-scored with 36 and partner Mayur got 26 runs to win the match for their team. Thusita and Dias from Luckstars took 2 wickets each.

With the win Vijay ‘B’ have qualified for the semifinals, while Luckstars are out of the competition.
