African Junior Athletics Championship-Seven included in Seychelles’ team |07 May 2011
The seven athletes taking part in the biennial championship organised by the Confederation of African Athletics are Ronny Bristol (shot put), Nerry Luc (long jump), Carlos Marianne (200m and 400m hurdles), Carlos Ernesta (high jump), Lissa Labiche (high jump and heptathlon), Joanne Lou-Toy (100m and 200m) and Alvin Kilindo (triple jump).
They will be accompanied by coaches Joseph Volcy and Carlos Sanchez.
To prepare for the championship, the athletes took part in a two-day special competition last weekend at the Stad Popiler.
Women’s high jump record holder Lissa Labiche soared to a height of 1.70m, clocked 16.3 seconds in the 100m hurdles and 26.0 seconds in the 200m.
Female sprinter Lou-Toy stopped the clock in 12.2 seconds in the 100m, while Marianne clocked 50.6 seconds in the 400m.
Praslinois Nerry Luc finished with a time of 22.3 seconds in the 200m and registered 6.31m in the long jump.
Kilindo, hopped, stepped and jumped over a distance of 13.70m in the triple jump, Ernesta registered 1.80m in the high jump, and Bristol finished with 12.95 seconds in the shot put throw.
Missing the trip for personal reasons are Marie-Michelle Athanase and Jean-Yves Esparon.
Local officials Fabien Belle and Beryl Laramé will officiate at the championship and this should serve them well in preparation for the forthcoming 8th Indian Ocean Island Games.
The African Junior Championship is held every two years and the first was held in Algiers, Algeria, in 1994. This year’s event will see teams from more than 40 African nations vie to be crowned Africa’s junior champions.
