Adopt a tree and protect our endemic species |25 July 2011
But now the possibility is here for real, after the National Botanical Gardens Foundation started a new campaign to get the community involved in conservation.
Any individual, a company or business can join this cause.
Foreigners who have lost a relative in Seychelles can also adopt a tree in the Botanical Gardens in memory of their beloved.
The Foundation has a list of plants and endemic trees that can be adopted; some of them have been in the garden since it was created. The people concerned have to pay to adopt a tree and the adoption can be from six to 10 years.
A commemorative plaque will be placed next to the tree and information will be provided on the person, company or business and the purpose of adoption.
It will be the Foundation’s duties to ensure that the plant is in good health.
Once the system has been well established the person can log in on website and see on a daily basis how the plant is doing.
This is also an opportunity for environment enthusiasts to adopt one of the most popular endemics in Seychelles, the coco-de-mer.
