Volleyball-Seychelles teams finish sixth and seventh overall

Ian Furneau and Benjamin Bijoux (at the net) and the Seychelles men’s team have finished sixth overall

After finishing third in their group behind Cameroon and Rwanda, the men’s selection did not make the semifinal and have been involved in the playoff matches to decide the final placings from fifth to eighth positions.

They beat South Africa 3-1 (26-24, 20-25, 25-21, 25-20) to meet Nigeria in the fifth-place play-off match which they lost 0-3 (22-25, 23-25, 19-25) to take sixth position.

As for the women’s team, they finished last in their group behind Kenya, Nigeria and Mozambique and like their male counterparts had to contest the playoffs.

They lost their first match 2-3 (34-32, 19-25, 17-25, 25-20, 8-15) to Senegal before avenging their 2-3 group loss to Mozambique with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-7, 25-21) win.

Meanwhile, the Algerian women and Cameroonian men are the gold medallists after winning the two finals played Wednesday.

Cameroon team fought for more than two hours to overpower Algeria 3-2 (23-25, 25-22, 25-17, 21-25, 15-11) in a stunning encounter to pick their third gold medal at the All-Africa Games.
