Beautiful upholstery works from Tassels Home Décor |07 November 2013

Cynthia Moncherry lives at Beau Vallon and her business’ name is Tassels Home Décor. Tassels Home Décor does any upholstery work that you may need for your home or business.

“I make bedroom, bathroom and kitchen sets, upholstery for cars, boats and home furniture and these are for armchairs, cushions, seat covers, curtains, toilet paper holders, toilet seat cover, bed sheets, pillow cases and any items that have to do with upholstery work,” said Cynthia.

“Let’s say you have an old armchair and you think it’s time to get rid of it – just bring it to Tassels Home Décor and Cynthia will make it new,” she added.

“Tassels Home Décor was set up about five years ago but at that time it was only making small cushions and curtains. But when clients started asking for other upholstery items, the business complied and the boom started from thereon,” Cynthia said.

Before it all started Cynthia was a housewife and was taking care of her husband and children.

“I had a sewing machine and in my spare time I did my own curtains and cushions. But then I said why not do them for other people as I sew very well,” Cynthia said.

She then contacted Senpa (Small Enterprise Promotion Agency) who advised her on what to do. From there she started participating in their fairs which are held about four times in a year.

“It was from those fairs that I got clients and started to be known. I am really enjoying doing this business as I love sewing,” she said.

Cynthia gets her raw materials like fabrics for her products from the Senpa shop or other Indian shops in town. She said she is happy with the items available in those outlets.

“I create all my upholstery designs myself. I did them first for my home only but now I am doing for other people and they are loving them,” Cynthia said.

When it comes to advertising her products, Tassels Home Décor advertises through the Senpa fairs in town. But like all businesses there are also bad moments when sale is not to that satisfactory level. Cynthia  generally sells or sews its products when clients order. Recently Tassels Home Décor has been accorded a very good contract with the Coral Strand Hotel at Beau Vallon where it is putting up curtains, blinds, tassels and other related upholstery works.

“Both Seychellois and tourists love my work but I get orders from Seychellois mostly. I am more busy during the festive season when normally Seychellois do an overall change in their upholstery items in the house like changing curtains and cushion materials. During this time they also love to offer my products as gifts to friends and relatives,” concluded Cynthia.
