Baha’i community celebrate the birth of Baha ullah |14 November 2013
The Baha’i community on Monday celebrated the birth of Baha ullah, the founder of the Baha’i faith and whose teachings, primarily based on the unity of mankind, are the basics of the religion.
The Baha’is also believe that Baha ullah is the Messenger of God and that the Messiah has returned to earth in his form.
Baha ullah was born on November 12, 1817 in Tehran, Iran and his birth day is one of the nine holy days in the Baha’i calendar.
The event, which this year coincided with the 60th anniversary of the presence of the Baha’i faith in Seychelles, was however commemorated locally on November 11 as according to Baha’i traditions, the festivities start at dusk. Activities included songs, dances, prayers, readings of Baha ullah’s teachings and dinner.
Addressing the followers on behalf of the National Baha’i Spiritual Society, Antonio Gopal said that Baha ullah’s birth is a model for government, justice and world peace – model which can save humanity from the dangers it faces today.
Mr Gopal added that Baha ullah’s birth was proclaimed by other prophets such as Mohamed and even Jesus Christ, and as all religions are waiting for the return of their prophets, Baha ullah has returned as the prophet for all.
Baha ullah’s birthday was celebrated under the theme ‘The earth is but One Country’, bringing across the message that there is one God and one family.
The slogan also reminds mankind that during the holy day the community should rejoice together, to increase the unity of the community and of the whole world.
