Seychelles lose heavily in first match

The Seychelles Under-20 have lost their first match at the Cosafa cup tournament being held in Lesotho.

Pitted in group C along with Zambia, Namibia and South Africa, the boys of Coach Jan Mak knows it will not be an easy task to emerge from the group stages and things have not started off too well.

Seychelles’ first match was against South Africa in Mafeteng on Wednesday, and they failed to cause an upset as two goals from Siyanda Ngubo helped South Africa to a 4-0 victory.

Ngubo got the ball rolling with a lovely finish beyond the Seychelles goalkeeper Ian Ah-Kong having been sent one-on-one with the gloveman on 13 minutes.

It was 2-0 just past the midway point of the first half when Ah-Kong failed to collect the ball in his penalty area and Magqwaka turned the ball home into an empty net.

The second half was more of the same one-way traffic as Ngubo added his second shortly after the break and Ntuli supplied an excellent finish to complete the scoring late on.

In the other matches played, Kenya beat Mauritius 4-0, Zambia drew 1-1 against Namibia, Angola dominated Madagascar 5-1 and Zimbabwe beat Swaziland 2-1.

The following are the players who started the match against South Africa, according to the Cosafa official website: Darwin Rosette, Colin Bibi, Travis Jerome, Ryan Marcel, Laurent Vel, Andrew Onezia, Ian Ah-Kong, Joshua Adeline, Dieter Constance, Hubert Jean, Waren Mellie.

Seychelles’ next match will be against Namibia tomorrow.
