Judo: Dugasse, Rose rewarded for their successes |03 January 2014
Praslinois Dominic Dugasse and Brigitte Rose capped a memorable year 2013 by being named the best male and female judokas.
Dugasse won the -100kg category gold medal at the African Open Championship in St Louis, Mauritius and was also ranked fifth in the men’s -100kg category at the 34th African senior judo championships held in Mozambique.
“I am very satisfied with my performances this year (in 2013), both internationally and locally,” said Dugasse who has now won the award a fourth time in a row.
Rose on her part won a bronze medal at African Open Championships in St Louis, Mauritius and she was also ranked fifth in the -78kg category at the African senior judo championship in Mozambique.
“I have worked really hard this year and I performed well to bring back some good results for Seychelles,” said Rose.
Like Dugasse, this is the fourth time she wins the title.
Naddy Jeanne was named the male runner-up, and Amandah Payet the female runner-up in the senior category.
In the younger category, Jean-Michel Vidot was named the best young male judoka of the year, while Valerie Philoe was named the best young female. Nantenaina Finesse is the male runner-up with Jessie Malbrook claiming the female runner-up spot.
Calix Cesar, who has worked with the two best judokas of the year, has been honoured by being named the coach of the year 2013, while Sandra Mathiot is the best official.
