Athletics: Ned Azemia gets record in year’s first event |30 January 2014
The 2014 season got off to a good start as a new men’s youth category (under 18 years old) 300m record was set during last weekend’s Special Event One competition – the first competition of the year.
It was Ned Azemia who shattered Christopher Laurencine’s previous record which stood at 35.7 seconds, setting a new time of 35.4 seconds.
Azemia has been chosen among the five finalists for the Young Male of the Year title which is due to be announced tomorrow night in the annual Sports Awards of the Year crowning ceremony at the National Sports Council hall.
The following are the top three finishers in each event:
60m hurdles men: 1. Mohamed Harryba (8.8 seconds) 2. Steven Marie (9.6 seconds)
60m women: 1. Joanne Lou Toy (7.5 seconds), 2. Surera Charles (8.0 seconds), 3. Athina Freminot (8.2 seconds)
60m men: 1. Danny D’Souza (6.9 seconds), 2. Dyland Sicobo (7.0 seconds), 3. Yannick Payet (7.3 seconds)
150m men final 1: 1. Neddy Marie (16.4 seconds), 2. Ned Azemia (16.5 seconds), 3. Jean Yves Roseline (16.7 seconds)

150m men final 2: 1. Steven Marie (18.7 seconds), 2. Noah Gabriel (19.5 seconds), 3. Fabio Roseline (20.3 seconds)
300m men: 1. Neddy Marie (35.1 seconds), 2. Ned Azemia (35.4 seconds – new youth record), 3. Yannick Barra (40.1 seconds)
Shot put men: 1. Dean William (13.43 metres), 2. Ronny Bristol (13.15m), 3. Nelson Dodin (9.87m)
