Seychelles begin final leg of qualifiers
The Seychelles men’s started their bid to qualify for the 2014 Volleyball World Championship with a match against Senegal last night in the African pool V qualifiers in Tunisia.
A win against Senegal will surely put them in the right frame of mind for their second encounter on March 5 against hosts Tunisia who are ranked 13th in the world and are seen are the favourites to progress.
The team’s two other matches are against Congo Brazzaville on March 6 and against Niger on March 7.
If Tunisia win pool V, they will claim their seventh qualification ticket in their history after 1970, 1974, 1978, 2002, 2006 and 2010.
All the other teams will be looking to qualify for the first time.
The winners of the round-robin tournament will earn the third African ticket to the Men's World Championship in Poland from August 30 to September 21.
Two African tickets to the men's championship were already determined after Cameroon won pool T in Yaoundé and Egypt clinched pool U in Nairobi.
The two women's African qualifiers for the 2014 World Championship in Italy were already determined after Tunisia won pool U in Nairobi and Cameroon captured pool T in Algeria.
