Athletics - Azemia, Loutoy named best athletes |30 December 2014

Ned Azemia and Joanne Loutoy have been named the best track & field male and female athletes for the year 2014 by the Seychelles Athletics Federation (SAF).
The SAF made the announcement during its end-of-year gathering.

Azemia and Loutoy have dominated the local athletics scene this year and have also achieved some good results at regional and international competitions.

Azemia was the 400m hurdles bronze medallist with a time of 53.27 seconds at the African Youth Games in Gaborone, Botswana, while Loutoy became the new darling of Seychelles’ track and field athletics with a new 100m record.

Motivated to do well as running alongside her was a Mauritian sprinter who had been training in Jamaica, Loutoy stopped the clock at 11.86 seconds to win the 100m race during the Vital-sponsored Mauritius National Championship at the Bambous Stadium in Mauritius and erase Joanna Houareau’s 11.89 seconds.

Loutoy, who competed in the 60 metres event at the 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships earlier this year, also won the 200m race in 24.96 seconds which is a personal best.

Neddy Marie is the runner-up to Azemia, while former Sportswoman of the year Lissa Labiche has been chosen as second best to Loutoy in the female category.

Azemia was also named the best young male track & field athlete, while Athina Freminot is the best young female athlete.

Wilna Ernest is the best volunteer, while Fabien Belle has been given the title of best official of the year.

The prizes for best effort went to Anna Barra and Herbert Adrienne.
