Volleyball: African Club Championship - Arsu lose first match |28 March 2015
Indian Ocean club champions Arsu have played their first game at the 2015 African Women’s Volleyball Club Championship and it has ended in defeat.
Arsu left Seychelles on Tuesday for the famous Egyptian capital city of Cairo to represent the Indian Ocean region at the championship.
They have been drawn in group D alongside Injis of Cameroon, Vision Volleyball Club (VVC) of Uganda and Club Feminin de Carthage of Tunisia whom they faced in their opening match yesterday afternoon.
The match ended in a 0-3 (17-25, 9-25, 13-25) loss for Arsu. The day’s other group D match was won by Vision Volleyball Club of Uganda on a 3-1 (13-25, 25-15, 25-23, 25-15) score against Injis of Cameroon.
Group D is the only group which contains four teams, while the other three groups all comprise three teams with the winners going through to the semifinals.
The winners of the competition will represent Africa at the world championships. The current holders of the competition are GSP of Algeria and they will be facing record seven-time champions Kenya Pipeline in group B along with Egyptian giants Ahly.
We were unable to get the complete schedule for the competition and therefore are unable to provide you with the time and date of Arsu’s next games. The competition will end on April 5.
The African Women's Club Championship is thought of as one of the most attractive competitions on the continent. Algeria's GSP are the current African champions after winning the last championship in Tunisia.
