Local basketball in mourning as Hery Rakotoniaina dies |08 June 2015
Seychelles’ basketball is in mourning after the loss of another of its players.
On Saturday morning, Malagasy Hery Jean Ulrich Rakotoniaina lost his life and is presumed to have drowned at Beau Vallon. He was there with his friends.
A promising playmaker, 26-year-old Hery, an employee of Indian Ocean Tuna, signed for Premium Cobras last year and played for one full season before switching to league champions Baya at the start of the present season.
The social media sites have been abuzz with words of support to his friends and family by the basketball family.
This is the second loss for Seychelles basketball after the country’s great, Lenny ‘Bad’ Aglaé, passed away earlier this year.
Sports Nation would like to extend its condolences to the family and friends of Hery.
The incident was reported to the police at 11.05am on Friday and Hery’s body was picked up from the sea by Seychelles Coast Guard officers at 6.30am on Saturday.
