Boxing - Botsoie and Nicette shine at Anse Etoile tournament |15 June 2015

The Anse Etoile Boxing Tournament held last Friday attracted a large crowd, where the main talking point was surely the historical women’s bout – a first for Seychelles.
Stephanie Nicette, who was also named the best upcoming boxer, became the first ever female boxing winner as she defeated compatriot Samia Fred 3-0 after three rounds of 1 minute and 30 seconds each.

“I am very proud to have won although this bout was only supposed to be an exhibition,” said Stephanie.
She added: “Training has been great and even though we train along with the boys, they have been very supportive.”

Stephanie also revealed that the girls will soon be taking part in a tournament in Mauritius, which will surely bring them a wealth of experience.
For the male boxers, Alvin Botsoie was named the best boxer of the tournament after he dominated Dario Gabriel in his bout to win 3-0.

The other bouts saw the promising Lorenzo Bonne defeat Stan Nicette, while Andrique Allisop faced tough resistance against Dave Cesar, but eventually saw his hand raised as the winner. Alva Botsoie claimed victory over Michael Brioche and Keddy Agnes gave a dominant performance against Ronny Legras.

The closest the fans got to possibly see a knockout or at the very least a knockdown, was in the final bout of the evening between Keven Kilindo and Nigel Benoit, but after taking a good number of punches, Benoit lost the bout on technical knockout after the first round was over much to the disappointment of the fans.

All boxers were rewarded with cash prizes for their efforts, while the two individual awards went to Nicette and Botsoie.
It should be noted that the boxers who were competing at the tournament are all preparing for the 2015 IOIG, where among them only 9 will be chosen to be part of the final selection for the games.
