Palau President Remengesau National Day guest of honour |26 June 2015

Tommy Esang Remengesau, Jr, President of the Republic of Palau, will be the guest of honour for the country’s National Day on Monday June 29.
Mr Rememgesau will be arriving here on Sunday June 28.
President Remengesau, Jr. is the eighth President of the Republic of Palau and is the first Palauan to be elected as President three times. He was first elected President in 2000 and was re-elected in 2004. Constitutionally limited to two consecutive presidential terms, he was elected in 2008 as Senator in the Palau National Congress (Olbiil Era Kelulau) where he served until his election as President again in 2012.

His election as President again in 2012 is a mark of his vitality and his commitment to his promise to the people of Palau to work hard to “preserve the best, improve the rest” for Palau, today and for generations to come. During his time in public office, Palau has been recognised for its financial stability and good governance. President Remengesau has also emphasised Palau’s international leadership and close relationship with the United States at the United Nations and on strategic matters.

In 2014, the voice for the environment in the United Nations system, the United Nations Environmental Programme, awarded President Remengesau with its top accolade – The Champion of the Earth award for his visionary leadership in strengthening Palau’s economic resilience by spearheading national initiatives to protect its biodiversity.
