9th Indian Ocean Island Games – Reunion 2015 - Athletes to benefit from medical expertise |01 July 2015
One hundred and twenty athletes who will be part of Team Seychelles at the ninth Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) will benefit from treatment session from the renowned Dr Choi before the games.
The sessions are being sponsored by three Korean companies operating locally and they are Dongwon Industries, Sunjing Engineering and of Dr Choi’s Clinic.
The donation was made in a small event at Dr Choi’s Clinic at Eden Plaza and the Minister for Social Affairs, Community Development and Sports Vincent Meriton was present along with the principal secretary for community development and sports Denis Rose and other invitees.
In his speech, Dr Choi recalled the exploits of Seychelles at the 2011 Games where only a single gold medal kept us from matching Reunion’s 58 gold medals as we finished second on the medals table. It was then that he first came to Seychelles as doctor for the team and he believes his contribution helped the team achieve its goals.
“It is important to keep athletes in the best possible condition and the manual treatment we offer reduces the risks of failing doping tests,” he said.
Dr Choi specialises in various treatments, with include depression, spinal injury, joint pains, weight loss, etc…
Minister Meriton thanked the three companies for the generous donations which will help in the preparation of the athletes.
“We will need everything that we can have so that our athletes can perform better and excel,” he added.
He also stated that physical conditioning and treatment are also very important for the preparation of athletes and that this donation will greatly benefit the team in Reunion.
