Muslims in Seychelles celebrate end of Ramadan |18 July 2015
In its message to muslims here in Seychelles urging them to stay united and to flee from ignorance, the Islamic Society of Seychelles has also strongly distanced itself from Islamic groups such as Boko Haram, ISIS and others which are doing their activities in the name of Islam.
“Their activites show their ignorance about Islam. It is not the Islam that we’ve learned and known about. My advice to muslims here in Seychelles especially the young ones is to stay strongly united and to flee from ignorance. We must seek knowledge about Islam. This will keep them away from these negative influences,” Imam Idris Ahmad Yusuf told the media after he had addressed a congregation on the occasion of the Eid-Ul Fitr prayers yesterday.
Celebrating the end of 29 days of the holy month of Ramadan, the muslim community in Seychelles gathered once again at the Stad Poliler for EId-Ul Fitr prayers. In the soft glow of the early morning sun, followers from the Mohammad Bin Khalifa Al-Nahyan Mosque in Victoria and those of Sheikh Dr Sultan Bin Khalifa Bin Zayet Al Nahyan Masjid mosque of Beaufond Lane were led into prayers by Imam Anowar Hossein from Bangladesh. The 23-year-old Imam Hossein is referred to as ‘hafiz’ in the muslim world because of his capability to read the whole Koran by heart.
In his address to the congregation seated on the football field, Imam Idris Ahmad Yusuf asked them to give their praises to Allah for giving them strength for completing Ramadan in good health.
He also talked about the negative influences related to ignorance by certain Islamic groups that are affecting other muslims worldwide.
He advised the muslim community to stay united, learn to listen and obey.
After greeting each other ‘Eid Mubarack’, all were invited for breakfast at the Victoria mosque.
Activities for the day continued with a family fun day at the Paradis Des enfants and an Eid dinner for all at the Victoria mosque last night.
It is to be noted that non-muslims were also invited to celebrate and to take part in those activities.
