Karting - Newly qualified Novices have first race. |29 September 2015
Six of the newly qualified Novice drivers had their first taste of competition at the first round of their Mini Championship last Saturday.
The six drivers took part in a 2 heat and one final race format with Nichol Bamboche taking first place followed by Lopez Anacoura in second and Cedric Ah-Time third. Nichol, who had taken a sabbatical, was back with a vengeance, and dominated the race, thought both Lopez and Cedric did well to keep up the challenge.
Following them across the finish line was Dan Bonte, who was penalized for overtaking under the yellow flag, and Jaden Bastienne in fifth and the luckless Elsie Servina, who was involved in a crash after 3 laps into the race, she was however classified as a finisher for completing two thirds of the required distance.
The drivers were presented with their racing licenses and are to contest the remainder of the season’s races, where they will then be promoted to the Cadet SF6 class next year.
Two other new drivers were not present, whist a number have still to complete and pass the final exam before they are cleared to race with the others.
This event marked the end of the training for this year where the newcomers were trained to drive the karts as well as understanding the rules and regulations of Karting for the last 6 months.
The association was disappointed with a few who had dropped out when finding the going got harder, hampering chances of others who were not selected. However the association was satisfied with the turn out of this year’s group and will now prepare itself for another intake next year.
