Foresters win to climb to second place
Foresters have climbed to second place in the Barclays league division one after claiming a 2-1 victory which sent their opponents Northern Dynamo deeper into the relegation battle.
The match was one with few goalmouth actions and spectators had to wait until the 38th minute for the first real chance which was taken by Foresters. Tony Kizito picked up a long pass in the penalty area and held off his marker before unleashing a strong shot and although Northern Dynamo goalkeeper Jules Monnaie got a hand to the ball he could not stop it from rolling into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
It was due reward for Foresters who were without a number of key players, including Godfrey Denis and top player Martin William.
Early in the second half Foresters increased their lead as Francis Nourrice floated in a corner to the unmarked Kizito who headed in his second goal of the game.
Northern Dynamo did manage to reduce the arrears late in the game. An 88th minute long range pass caught the Foresters defence off guard, leaving Basil Bertin free in the penalty area to slot the ball past goalkeeper Frank Moutoni.
It was too little too late though for coach Cliff Nolin’s boys as Foresters claimed their ninth victory, condemning Dynamo to their eighth loss and leaving them just two points above the automatic relegation place.
Coach Nolin was disappointed after the loss.
“Of course I am disappointed, especially with our offence which isn’t creating enough chances and lacks the killer instinct,” said Dynamo coach Nolin after the game.
He added: “We must have hope and battle all the way to stave off relegation, but the chance for survival is still here and we must work hard in training to achieve our target.”
As for Foresters, their goalkeeper Moutoni said they have already achieved their main objective which is to stay in the top division.
“We are still in the race for the championship, but we will not pressure ourselves into chasing the league title as we have already achieved what we set out to do at the start of the season,” he added.
Moutoni also pointed out that the reason behind their success is their teamwork, where all members of the coaching staff and players work for the good of the team.
Foresters are now in second place in the standings, five points behind leaders St Michel with three matches left.
