Voting starts today at special polling stations
Voters start casting their votes today to choose a president who will lead the country for the next five years.
Voting will continue tomorrow and on Saturday.People living on Ile Perseverance but registered in different electoral areas, those on remand at the Montagne Posée prison, those working and living on the islands, residents of North East Point Home for the Elderly and patients of the North east Point Hospital as well as people who are temporarily residing on Praslin for employment reasons will vote today and tomorrow at special polling stations which have been set up to make the election process easier.
As for people who will be working in essential services away from their electoral areas on the main polling day which is Saturday December 5, they will also be voting today at a special polling station set up at the English River community centre.
Meanwhile, voters from inner islands and electoral areas on Praslin who will be on Mahé on Saturday will be able to vote at a special polling station at the National Library.
The special polling stations where voting will take place today, tomorrow and Saturday are as follows:
On Praslin – December 3
For all electoral areas of Mahé and inner islands in respect of persons temporarily residing on Praslin for employment reasons.
Voting time: 7am to 4pm

North East Point Home for the Elderly – December 3
For all electoral areas in respect of persons residing at the North East Point Home for the Elderly and patients of the North East Point Hospital
Voting time: 8am to 12 noon

English River – December 3
For all electoral areas in respect of persons employed in essential services who will be on duty away from their electoral area on the date of election.

Meanwhile campaigning for the forthcoming presidential election officially stopped at 7am yesterday, 24 hours before voting starts today.
As per the Elections (Amendment) Act, 2014 a candidate at the election or an agent of the candidate or any political party or any person on behalf shall, within 24 hours prior to voting day, not engage in such activities as motorcade, rally, or public meeting; stage show, party or picnic; political broadcast or political advertisement on radio, television or newspaper; publication of political billboards, placard, poster or pamphlet, whether printed or in electronic form; and opinion poll.
The Electoral Commission has called on all candidates, agent of candidates and political parties to respect the above as stipulated by the law.
All billboards and posters within 100 meters of polling stations were supposed to have been removed by yesterday when campaigning stopped.
All stakeholders are being strongly requested to adhere to the Code of Conduct for this election.
