Football - Mathiot named among top Fifa instructors |06 January 2016
Former Seychelles national team head coach Ulric Mathiot has been given a three-year mandate as one of few long-term coaching instructors on the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (Fifa) panel of instructors and lecturers.
Mathiot has been a Fifa coaching instructor since 2009 and he explained that back then the instructors’ obligations lasted for only a year and the contracts were renewed every year based on their performances throughout the year.
“Fifa has now decided to select their best instructors and give them a longer contract rather than a single year one as before and I am happy to have been among them,” Mr Mathiot revealed.
Mathiot, who has conducted courses in various countries across the African continent, was appointed as the Confederation of African Football (Caf) instructor back in 1999.
The first Seychellois to achieve such a feat, he stated that his selection among the panel of instructors is a reward for all his hard work and tireless efforts towards the development of football in Africa.
He is also a member of the Council for Southern African Football Associations (Cosafa) technical committee.
“Aside from conducting coaching courses in various countries, I will also act as a consultant for Fifa,” he revealed.
Mr Mathiot has a very extensive curriculum vitae when it comes to his contributions towards football development and coming from such a small nation his recognition as one of the world’s top coaching instructors speaks volumes about Seychelles’ pedigree with regards to sports development.
He is employed as technical director with the Seychelles Football Federation (SFF).
