Sicobo breaks national junior record, qualifies for under 20 world champs
Dylan Sicobo has qualified for the International Athletics Federation (IAAF) Under 20 World Championships after he smashed the 100m sprint national junior record at the Mauritius International Meet held last Saturday.
Sicobo finished the race in a time of 10.53 seconds to slash 20 milliseconds off his own previous record of 10.73s set in Nairobi, Kenya last year. The result has enabled him to qualify for the World under 20 Championships that will be held in Poland, from July 19 to 24 this year.
Sicobo, who finished the 100m race in 4th place despite the record time also competed in the 200m event, where he claimed second place in 21.77s.
Among the other Seychellois athletes at the competition was Ned Azemia, who has also qualified for the world under 20 championships, and he managed to win the 400m Hurdles event in 54.36s.
Leeroy Henriette, Sharry Dodin and Neddy Marie also competed at the tournament, with Marie finishing third in the 400m with a time of 49.71s.
